The Jerram Foundation have been working in Dhaka, Bangladesh with ARISE Consortium and BRAC James P Grant School of Public Health to fund the restoration of a Community Resource Centre and to run art workshops.

The restoration includes a complete overhaul of the space, with a new roof, electrics and the creation of murals by local artists. The team have also planted flowers and fruit and vegetables for the centre, with many of potted plants also being given away to local people to take home and grow, with the crops being sold to help to subsidise their income.

The informal urban settlement houses a large population engaged in diverse activities and sees a constant flow of migrants from other parts of the country. The settlement is built on government-owned land and the inhabitants reside in a precarious state as they face the threat of demolition and eviction. Like other slum areas in Dhaka city, the informal settlement has poor access to provisions of health, nutrition, sanitation, and gender equity.
